Can’t Close Your Suitcase? Here’s The Answer

Can’t Close Your Suitcase? Here’s The Answer

Let me start with a personal story.

Recently, I experienced one of life’s biggest milestones as a mother: my daughter’s wedding. While we spent months planning every detail of her and her husband’s special day, I had a very practical concern quietly running in the background—what was I going to wear, and how was I going to get it all there? With the wedding taking place near her home in Southern California, this wasn’t just a drive down the road—it was a plane trip away.

Now, if you’ve ever packed for a wedding, you already know this is not a “throw a few things in a bag and go” situation. This was:

  • A wine-tasting day outfit

  • A rehearsal dinner outfit

  • A wedding-day outfit

  • A post-wedding brunch outfit

  • Shoes that absolutely could not be crushed

  • Accessories that had opinions

This is the moment that fifteen years of coaching people on how to pack kicked in for me, and when compression cubes earn their standing ovation.

The Packing Challenge (AKA: “This Is Not Going to Fit”)

As I laid everything out on the bed, I had that familiar moment where I thought:

Okay… this is optimistic.

Multiple outfits. Structured fabrics. Layers. Backup options (because weddings). And yet, my suitcase closed easily, calmly, without drama.

The secret? Compression cubes.

I didn’t discover them for this trip—but this trip reminded me why I never travel without them.

What Makes Compression Cubes Different?

Compression cubes look simple, but they’re quietly brilliant.

Unlike regular packing cubes that just hold your clothes, compression cubes use a double zipper system that lets you gently press the air out of your clothing after packing. Think of it as giving your clothes a polite but firm hug.

No vacuum. No wrestling match.  No sitting on your suitcase.

Your clothes become flatter, denser, and far easier to stack and organize.

How I Used Them for the Wedding Trip

Here’s how I packed for a weekend that felt like a fashion show:

  • One cube for wedding-day clothing (treated like royalty)
  • One cube for rehearsal and activity outfits
  • One smaller cube for undergarments and accessories

Everything stayed separated, visible, and easy to find. No digging. No “where did I put that?” moments. When I arrived, I opened my suitcase and instantly knew where everything was, thanks to the different-colored cubes.

And yes—everything came out wearable.

Why I Recommend Compression Cubes to Everyone I Coach

I see this over and over at my packing events.

People think they need:

  • A bigger luggage.

  • Fewer outfit options.

  • Or some kind of packing superpower.

What they actually need is better organization and less air.

Compression cubes help you:

  • Fit more into carry-ons.

  • Keep clothes organized and clean throughout the trip if you use the hotel drawers to unpack.

  • Repack quickly (especially helpful when hotel hopping).

  • Should the traumatic experience of having your luggage explode in the turnstile at the airport, you can easily pick up your loose cubes avoiding the embarrassment of your underwear in full display for everyone to see.

  • Travel with less stress and fewer surprises.

They’re especially helpful for trips with:

  • Outfit changes- example: six rayon blouses can fit in one small compression cube.

  • Bulky layers: sweaters, sweatshirts, hoodies, and puff nylon jackets or vests.

  • Or anyone who likes knowing exactly where things are (like myself!).

A Small Reality Check (Because I’m Honest)

Do compression cubes add a little weight? Yes. Can clothes wrinkle slightly? Sometimes, depending on the fabrics used. Pick blended fabric materials for better results.

But here’s the trade-off: I’d rather spend two minutes steaming a dress than 45 minutes repacking an exploding luggage—or checking a bag I didn’t need to.

That’s a trade I’ll make every time.

Why I Sell Compression Cubes On My Site

I only recommend products I actually use—and coach with.

Compression cubes aren’t trendy. They’re practical. They turn packing into a system instead of a scramble. And once you travel with them, it’s very hard to imagine packing without them.

If they can handle a wedding weekend, they can handle a trip around the world, a ski trip with a different puff outfit every day, or a two week adventure cruise.

Compression Cubes will change your life!

Happy packing,

Kathleen
